Growing up, I really liked art and took fine art classes from the ages of 8-18. However, I didn’t really see how art could be a career path for me. Entering college, I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do and tried many different classes, but settled on sociology and cognitive science because I wanted to understand how people as individuals think and behave and how that may change under different cultural and social conditions.
The internships, projects, and research I got involved in showed me how my skills in visual art and my understanding of psychology gave me a unique perspective on creative solutions on how a process or product could be redesigned. This led me to want to apply design concepts to digital mediums, whether that be app interfaces, websites, or educational materials.
I want to expand my knowledge in digital design and also design thinking. I enjoy learning about typography, layout design, and interactive motion effects. Another aspect of the design process that I have really liked is conducting user testing and research because I get to apply my psychology and sociology to my design decisions. I love both the art and people aspect of design work and I hope to become a UX/UI designer one day.
